Draco

A Beseeched and Flameless Dragon

“Draco” is drawn entirely in dots, a slow process that mirrors the need to retreat inward. Lately, I’ve been drawn to escapism as a response to what is happening in my country; when reality feels heavy, fantasy becomes a refuge. Creating this dragon allowed me to step outside the present and into a world shaped by imagination rather than circumstance.

The act of building an image dot by dot is grounding, almost ritualistic, and the dragon itself stands as a symbol of power, endurance, and freedom. On a simple level, dragons are just undeniably cool; but here, they also become a vessel for coping, wonder, and survival through art.

The dragon is summoned and beseeched, expected to deliver fire, yet it is empty. There is no flame, only a scream. The open mouth is not violence but supplication, a raw admission of absence. In this moment, the dragon becomes less a myth of destruction and more a body under demand, pleading against its own inadequacy.
